Postecoglou: Stressed but Entertained by Tottenham's Win
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou reflects on his team's dramatic 4-3 victory over Manchester United, labeling the match as both stressful and entertaining.
Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham Hotspur, expressed mixed emotions after his team's thrilling 4-3 win against Manchester United, which secured their place in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup.
Despite two costly errors by goalkeeper Fraser Forster, which led to United's goals, Tottenham managed to prevail. Early goals from Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski gave Spurs a 3-0 lead, but the match turned chaotic in the second half as United's Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo closed the gap to 3-2. However, a stunning corner kick goal by Son Heung-min secured victory, rendering Jonny Evans' late strike inconsequential.
Postecoglou commented, "We played brilliantly and controlled the game, but we hurt ourselves with mistakes. We should have sealed the game much earlier. This group of players is performing incredibly. I was stressed, but wasn’t it entertaining? Everyone enjoyed the game."
Regarding Forster's performance, Postecoglou added, "He's upset because those mistakes overshadow his otherwise excellent contributions, including his distribution and key saves."
