Chelsea's head coach, Enzo Maresca, acknowledged that he had foreseen the team's recent back-to-back Premier League defeats, emphasizing the need for improvement to compete with England's top clubs.

Maresca Anticipated Chelsea's Recent Poor Performances

Chelsea suffered a 2-0 away defeat against Ipswich Town, marking their second consecutive Premier League loss under head coach Enzo Maresca. This follows a previous loss to Fulham on Boxing Day, a first for Maresca's tenure.

Ipswich's Liam Delap opened the scoring with a penalty early in the match and later assisted Omari Hutchinson for the second goal shortly after halftime.

In his post-match comments, Maresca reflected on the team's performance:

"The game was somewhat unusual. In the first half, we created numerous chances, and we had opportunities early in the second half as well. However, the second goal effectively ended the contest."

Regarding Delap's impact, Maresca noted: "That's Liam for you. I've known him for a while; perhaps we could have defended better in certain moments. Congratulations to him and their team."

Addressing Chelsea's current form, Maresca admitted: "We anticipated encountering such a period during the season. It was almost inevitable. No one here expected us to be where we are now. This highlights that we still have ground to cover to consistently compete alongside England's elite teams. While we should be content with our current position, there's a clear need for progress."

He further analyzed: "I prefer to evaluate on a game-by-game basis. Tonight, we generated plenty of chances but could have defended more effectively. The Fulham match didn't go as planned. Everton poses challenges for any team. In December, we played nine matches, starting with five or six wins, but faced difficulties as the month progressed, leading to fatigue."
