The saga began with an ACL tear suffered in a match against Napoli at the Diego Maradona Stadium. Although Deulofeu initially returned to action briefly, playing against Sampdoria, complications soon arose. "I felt something was wrong," he recalled. "After that game, the bad news came. I needed surgery, but post-operation, I developed a cartilage infection. This has been more than just an injury; it has been a battle beyond biology."
Deulofeu described the complexity of his condition, explaining, "When cartilage is damaged, it’s not just about the injury itself. Bones grind against each other, causing constant pain. It’s a fight that challenges not only your body but also your spirit." Despite these challenges, the 29-year-old expressed cautious optimism. "I’m doing better now compared to a few months ago, but there’s still a long road ahead," he admitted.
While his contract with Udinese has technically expired, the club has demonstrated extraordinary loyalty. In a statement, Udinese reaffirmed their support for Deulofeu: "Gerard remains an integral part of the Udinese family. We stand by him and look forward to his eventual return to the pitch." Deulofeu expressed deep gratitude for this unwavering support, saying, "This club has been incredible.
