Schlott: Too Early to Call Liverpool the Best

Liverpool coach Arne Schlott believes it’s premature to label his team the best in the world, emphasizing the need for consistent performance in every match.

Schlott: Too Early to Call Liverpool the Best

Arne Schlott, head coach of Liverpool, has responded to recent praise for his team, cautioning that it is still too early to label Liverpool as the best in the world. Speaking ahead of their Champions League clash with Lille, Schlott stated, 'Frank's comments mean a lot to me because he has shown at Brentford how you can build a great team without spending heavily. But for us, it's too soon to make such declarations.'

Schlott stressed the importance of focusing on each game rather than getting carried away by external opinions. 'Our primary goal when we play in front of our fans is to win. Yes, it’s great if we finish top of the group, but this format is unpredictable. Being group leaders doesn’t necessarily mean you are the best, and finishing 24th doesn’t make you bad either. We want to win tomorrow, not for the rankings, but because we aim to win every match in this tournament.'

Discussing Lille, Schlott praised their quality and resilience, noting their strong performances against elite teams. 'Lille has impressed me, though I am not surprised by their quality. I faced their coach a few years ago and saw the high level his team played at. Beating teams like Atlético and Real Madrid shows how good they are. Lille hasn’t lost in 21 games, which speaks volumes about their consistency.'

Schlott also shared his thoughts on the new Champions League format. While acknowledging some positive aspects, he expressed reservations about its fairness. 'I’ve said this before: one good thing is that teams from Pot 3 and 4 now get to play each other, which gives them a better chance. But for the top-seeded teams, it’s harder to judge. You can’t just look at the standings to evaluate teams anymore because luck in the draw plays a big role.'

As Liverpool prepares for the crucial match, Schlott’s measured approach reflects his focus on steady improvement and adaptability. The manager’s comments highlight his respect for the competition and his opponents, while keeping his team grounded amidst rising expectations.
