Real Madrid Raises Concerns Over Grueling Match Schedule

Real Madrid has expressed frustration over their congested match schedule, which has left players with little time for recovery. The club's director of institutional relations, Emilio Butragueño, highlighted the challenges of the current calendar, stating, "Playing on Sundays and Wednesdays for 11 months is extremely demanding for the players."

The club is juggling commitments in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and international competitions, resulting in an intense workload that raises concerns about player welfare. Upcoming matches include a Copa del Rey clash against Deportiva Minera, where squad rotation will be key to managing fatigue while maintaining respect for the opposition.

Real Madrid is not alone in voicing these concerns. Players across Europe, including Dani Carvajal and Manchester City’s Rodri, have suggested the possibility of collective action if fixture congestion remains unaddressed. Carvajal noted, "If this continues, there will come a time when there is no other option."

Butragueño emphasized the need for balance, stating, "The calendar must account for both competition demands and the physical limits of athletes. It’s a responsibility we owe to the players and the sport."

As the season progresses, Real Madrid, along with other clubs and governing bodies, will need to explore solutions to address these scheduling challenges and prioritize player health.
