Controversial Assistant of Carlos Queiroz Appointed Head Coach in Portugal
Sebastião Macias, former fitness coach under Carlos Queiroz for Iran's national team, has been appointed head coach of Estoril's B team in Portugal.
Sebastião Macias, who previously served as a fitness coach for Iran's national team under Carlos Queiroz, has been named the head coach of the B team for Portugal's Estoril club. Macias, often referred to as Queiroz's 'adopted son' during his tenure with Iran, was a subject of considerable controversy.
At just 34 years old, Macias's prior experience includes roles as a fitness coach and physiotherapist with the national teams of Iran and Colombia, both under Queiroz's leadership. Earlier this year, he took on the role of head coach for Estoril's under-19 team, leading them to eight victories and three draws, placing them at the top of Portugal's youth league standings.
In an interview with the club's official website, Macias expressed his gratitude: 'After experiencing the World Cup with Iran and the Copa América with Colombia, I focused on my head coaching career in youth teams. I am thankful to Estoril for their trust. Our main goal is to discover emerging stars and present modern football to support Estoril's main team.'
