Former Persepolis Striker Leandro Pereira's Career Declines in Brazil
Leandro Pereira, once a forward for Persepolis, has experienced a significant downturn in his career, moving from Botafogo's B team in Brazil's Serie B to Paraná in Serie D without scoring any goals.
Brazilian club football recently concluded with Botafogo clinching the Serie A title and the illustrious Santos securing the Serie B championship. Meanwhile, Fluminense, captained by the 38-year-old Thiago Silva, narrowly avoided relegation by finishing 13th.
A notable aspect of this season's Serie B was the underwhelming performance of Leandro Pereira, a former striker for Persepolis. The 33-year-old forward failed to score or assist in 17 appearances for Botafogo's B team. His disciplinary record included four yellow cards and one red card. Three weeks ago, upon the expiration of his contract with Botafogo, Pereira joined Paraná, a club competing in Brazil's Serie D.
Pereira joined Persepolis in the second half of the 2022–23 season as a replacement for Jürgen Locadia. He made 11 appearances across the Premier League and Hazfi Cup, netting a single goal against Naft Masjed Soleyman. He concluded his tenure in Iranian football by securing both the Premier League and Hazfi Cup titles with Persepolis.
Since departing from Persepolis, Pereira's form has declined. Over the past two years, he has scored just one goal for Tochigi SC in Japan's J2 League. Botafogo's B team finished the Serie B season in 14th place.
