Quique Setien Appointed Head Coach of Beijing Guoan
Former Barcelona manager Quique Setien has joined Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan on a one-year deal with an option for an additional year, marking a significant new chapter in his coaching career.
Quique Setien, known for his time at Barcelona, has been officially named the new head coach of Beijing Guoan, one of the top teams in the Chinese Super League. The Spanish coach has signed a one-year contract with an option to extend for another year, signaling the club’s ambition to compete at the highest level in the upcoming season.
Setien becomes the third Spanish manager to take charge of Beijing Guoan, following Gregorio Manzano and Jose Gonzalez. His appointment comes after the departure of Ricardo Soares, who left the role at the end of last season.
Beijing Guoan, who last won the Chinese Super League in 2009, finished fourth in the previous campaign. They now hope Setien's tactical expertise, honed during his successful spells at Las Palmas and Real Betis, will guide them back to title contention. During his coaching career, Setien has been celebrated for his attacking philosophy and ability to develop cohesive teams.
Setien's last coaching role was with Villarreal, and his move to China reflects a significant step in his international coaching journey. The Chinese Super League season is set to start in March, and fans eagerly await Setien’s impact on the team.
