Manuel Neuer to Defend Himself via Video Link in Appeal Against Two-Match Ban
Bayern Munich's goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, will participate via video link in his appeal against a two-match suspension following a red card incident in the DFB-Pokal match against Bayer Leverkusen.
Manuel Neuer, the goalkeeper for Bayern Munich, is set to defend himself via video link in an appeal against his two-match suspension. The German Football Association (DFB) will convene on Thursday to deliberate on the ban imposed after Neuer's red card during the DFB-Pokal match against Bayer Leverkusen. According to reports, Neuer intends to personally address the panel through a video connection.
The hearing will take place at the DFB campus in Frankfurt, presided over by Stephan Oberholz, the chairman of the disciplinary committee. In their official statement, the DFB explained the suspension: "Preventing an obvious goal-scoring opportunity through a non-severe foul typically results in a two-match ban, as per consistent DFB jurisprudence."
The incident occurred during Bayern's cup defeat to Leverkusen. In the 17th minute, Jeremie Frimpong broke free towards Bayern's goal following a long pass. Neuer rushed out but failed to intercept the ball, instead colliding with Frimpong using his shoulder. The referee immediately issued a red card for the foul, marking the first dismissal in the 38-year-old's professional career.
Compounding the suspension, Neuer is currently sidelined due to a rib fracture sustained during the same incident, rendering him unavailable for play regardless of the appeal's outcome.
