Rio Ferdinand: 'Liverpool Can't Retain All Three of Their Star Players!'
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes that Liverpool faces a significant challenge in retaining Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah, whose contracts are nearing expiration.
Liverpool's captain Virgil van Dijk, vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, and star forward Mohamed Salah are all approaching the final six months of their contracts, set to expire in June 2025. This situation allows them to negotiate with foreign clubs starting in January, potentially leaving Anfield as free agents.
According to a report by Mail Sport, the club has initiated preliminary discussions with Salah regarding a new contract. However, the Egyptian forward has yet to reach an agreement to extend his stay on Merseyside. Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold has attracted interest from Real Madrid, with the Spanish giants keen on bringing the right-back to the capital.
Addressing the contract situations of these key players, former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand commented on TNT Sports:
"If the club manages to keep all three players, it would be a significant achievement. They are all exceptional talents who have accomplished remarkable feats. They rank among the greats, but I don't believe the club can retain all three. I think Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah will stay, but this presents an opportunity for someone like Trent to move to Real Madrid. Opportunities to join a club like that don't come around often, and given the current circumstances, he may never have an easier chance than this. So, it's difficult for him to stay."
