Rúben Amorim Sets Premier League Title as Manchester United's Season Objective
Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim emphasizes that the team's primary goal is to secure the Premier League title, underscoring the club's commitment to achieving top honors.
Rúben Amorim, the head coach of Manchester United, has affirmed that the club's main ambition for the current season is to clinch the Premier League title. Addressing the media ahead of United's UEFA Europa League match against Viktoria Plzeň, Amorim stated, 'Our goal is to win the Premier League. Of course, for a big club like ours, being in the Champions League at any cost is important. But our focus is on winning the Premier League, not just qualifying for the Champions League.'
Amorim also discussed the recent departure of sporting director Dan Ashworth, who played a pivotal role in bringing him from Sporting Lisbon to replace Erik ten Hag in November. Reflecting on Ashworth's exit, Amorim remarked, 'From day one, I felt great support from the ownership, from Omar, from Jason [Wilcox], and Dan was part of that. I really felt support from Dan as well, but this is football, and sometimes these things happen. It's not the best situation, but the important thing is that we continue on our path.'
Regarding potential transfers in the January window, Amorim emphasized his focus on the current squad, stating, 'I'm really focused on my players to understand them. I think that was one of the problems of the club. We have to focus on what we have, focus on the academy. When we buy a player, we have to know what problems we have and what kind of player we want.'
Manchester United is set to face Viktoria Plzeň in the Europa League, with Amorim highlighting the importance of advancing without the need for playoffs, which would result in two fewer matches. He noted, 'For us, this game is very important. We're facing a team that many people don't know, but they haven't lost at home in Europe. It's very important to go to the next stage, and to do that, we have to win tomorrow.'
