Raphinha Misses Spectacular Lamine Yamal Assist Against Borussia Dortmund
In Barcelona's UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund, Raphinha failed to convert a remarkable trivela assist from Lamine Yamal, missing a prime opportunity to score.
During the UEFA Champions League group stage match between Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund, winger Raphinha squandered a golden opportunity set up by a stunning assist from 17-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal.
In the 14th minute, midfielder Dani Olmo advanced the ball down the right flank, passing to Yamal. Demonstrating exceptional skill, Yamal delivered a precise trivela cross—using the outside of his left foot—to find Raphinha in front of the goal. However, Raphinha's left-footed attempt went wide, failing to capitalize on the exquisite setup.
This isn't the first time Yamal has showcased his ability to execute such assists. In previous matches against Mallorca and Villarreal, his trivela passes led to goals, with Raphinha successfully converting on those occasions. Reflecting on his technique after the Mallorca match, Yamal remarked, 'I think the button for such a pass in EA Sports games is L2. It's a move I know well, I usually perform it, and I will continue to do so. I'm very happy for Raphinha. We have a good understanding. He knows that when I'm in that area of the field, I always try to make such a pass.'
Despite the missed opportunity, Barcelona continued to press and eventually secured a 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund, with Raphinha redeeming himself by scoring the opening goal later in the match.
