Joe Gomez Reveals He Nearly Left Liverpool Last Summer
Liverpool defender Joe Gomez disclosed that he was on the verge of leaving the club during the last transfer window but ultimately chose to stay, reaffirming his commitment to the team.
In a recent interview, Joe Gomez, the 27-year-old defender for Liverpool, revealed that he came close to departing the club during the summer transfer window. Gomez, who joined Liverpool from Charlton Athletic in 2015, has faced multiple injuries throughout his tenure but remains a key figure in the squad.
Gomez stated, "I was very close to leaving Liverpool last summer; it was a serious consideration, and everything was in the final stages. However, my focus has always been on the club. I know how fortunate I am to be here. Next summer will mark 10 years since I joined, and I don't take that for granted."
He added, "I love Liverpool; this is my home, and I'm always ready to serve this club. I believe certain events happen for specific reasons, and I stayed to fulfill a mission that destiny has set."
Reports indicate that Liverpool had reached an agreement with Newcastle United for Gomez's transfer, which would have involved Anthony Gordon moving to Liverpool as part of the deal. However, the transfer was ultimately canceled due to financial issues on Newcastle's part.
