Fabio Capello Criticizes Pep Guardiola's Arrogance and Self-Centeredness
Legendary coach Fabio Capello has criticized Pep Guardiola, labeling him as overly arrogant and self-centered. Capello suggests that Guardiola's desire to claim credit has led to key players being excluded in important matches, potentially causing Manchester City's recent struggles.
Manchester City is experiencing a challenging phase, with the team suffering seven defeats in 24 official matches this season. In contrast, they recorded only seven losses in each of the past two seasons. This downturn includes a recent 2-0 loss to Juventus in the Champions League.
Addressing these issues, legendary coach Fabio Capello remarked, "Guardiola is a great coach, but he is overly arrogant and self-centered. Sometimes, he has lost trophies because he wanted to show that it was he who won, not the players. In important games, he has excluded key players from the lineup. In my opinion, this was an attempt to draw attention to himself."
Capello further speculated that the players might be growing weary of Guardiola's methods, stating, "Perhaps the players can no longer tolerate Guardiola because, at a certain point, they have nothing new to offer him."
Guardiola took charge of Manchester City in 2016 and is approaching his 497th match as the club's manager. Under his leadership, the team has achieved significant success, including six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, one Champions League, one Club World Cup, and one UEFA Super Cup. In 2023, Guardiola was honored as the world's best coach, FIFA's coach of the year, and England's coach of the year.
His contract with Manchester City extends until 2027. Discussing his future, Guardiola recently stated, "I feel that it's enough. I will step aside. I will not take another team. I'm not talking about the distant future, but I will not leave Manchester City to go to another country and do exactly what I'm doing now." He added, "Perhaps coaching a national team would be good, but that's another matter."
