Torino President Urbano Cairo Accuses Juventus of Benefiting from Refereeing Errors Before VAR

In a recent interview with Corriere dello Sport, Urbano Cairo, president of Torino FC, alleged that before the introduction of VAR technology, Juventus secured numerous victories over Torino as a result of officiating errors. Cairo referenced a YouTube compilation highlighting significant refereeing mistakes in favor of Juventus during the Turin derbies prior to VAR's adoption.

Cairo's comments have reignited discussions about historical refereeing controversies in Italian football, particularly involving Juventus. Notably, former Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti remarked that even with VAR, certain contentious decisions, such as those from the 1997-98 Serie A season, might not have been overturned.

The implementation of VAR aimed to reduce human error and increase fairness in officiating. However, debates persist regarding its effectiveness and the extent to which it has addressed longstanding concerns about refereeing impartiality in matches involving prominent clubs like Juventus.
