Bayern Munich's Sporting Director: 'No Excuses, We Should Have Beaten Mainz'
Bayern Munich's Sporting Director, Max Eberl, expressed disappointment following the team's 2-1 defeat to Mainz 05, emphasizing that despite injuries, the squad had sufficient quality to secure a victory.
Bayern Munich suffered their first Bundesliga loss of the season with a 2-1 defeat against Mainz 05. South Korean midfielder Lee Jae-sung was instrumental for Mainz, netting both goals. Despite dominating possession, Bayern struggled offensively, registering only one shot on target—a late goal by Leroy Sané in the 87th minute.
Sporting Director Max Eberl did not attribute the loss to the team's injury challenges. He stated, "We said from day one that we wouldn't look for excuses. We had enough quality on the pitch to win the game, but we didn't. This was our first league defeat. We know we have to win our games to become champions. We'll continue and look forward to Friday's game against Leipzig."
Eberl acknowledged Mainz's deserved victory, noting Bayern's shortcomings in duels and composure. He remarked, "I'm sorry for the team; Mainz deserved to win this game. We lost many duels, lacked composure, and couldn't maintain our usual control."
Bayern Munich aims to rebound in their upcoming match against RB Leipzig to maintain their position atop the Bundesliga standings.
