Munir El Haddadi: 'I Was Unlucky to Play at Barcelona During Messi's Era'
Munir El Haddadi, former Barcelona forward, reflects on his career at the club, revealing the challenges of competing with Messi, Neymar, and Suárez, and how he might have thrived in today's team.
Munir El Haddadi, once hailed as one of La Masia's brightest talents, made his first-team debut for Barcelona on August 24, 2014. Despite his early promise, Munir found it challenging to secure a regular spot in a forward line dominated by Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suárez. Reflecting on his time at the club, Munir remarked, 'I was unlucky to be at Barcelona during Messi's era.' He believes that in today's Barcelona, which integrates more young players, he might have enjoyed increased playing time. Nevertheless, Munir cherishes his experiences at the club, stating, 'I enjoyed many beautiful moments at Barça.'
During his tenure with Barcelona, Munir made 56 appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists. After several loan spells, he transferred to Sevilla in January 2019. Currently, Munir plays for Leganés, and ahead of facing his former club, he expressed, 'Every time this game happens, it's special. Barça gave me everything.' He remains proud of his development at Barcelona, both as a player and as an individual.
