Lamine Yamal, the 17-year-old sensation from Barcelona, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Golden Boy title, distinguishing him as Europe's finest under-21 footballer. Prior to the recent La Liga match against Leganés, Yamal proudly showcased the award to the fans at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, receiving enthusiastic applause from the crowd.
Although Yamal was announced as the Golden Boy winner several weeks ago, logistical challenges prevented him from attending the official ceremony in Turin. Consequently, the award was sent directly to him, allowing him to share this significant achievement with Barcelona supporters.
Yamal becomes the fourth Barcelona player to receive this honor, following in the footsteps of Lionel Messi (2005), Pedri González (2021), and Pablo Gavi (2022). Notably, last year's recipient was Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid.
In the women's category, the 2024 Golden Girl award was bestowed upon Vicky López of Barcelona, recognizing her as Europe's top under-21 female footballer.
