Bruno Fernandes Reflects on Calm Penalty Against Manchester City
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes discusses his composed penalty in the 2-1 victory over Manchester City, highlighting Amad Diallo's impactful performance.
Manchester United secured a 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League's Manchester derby. Despite trailing after Josko Gvardiol's first-half header, United turned the game around with goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo in the second half.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Fernandes praised Diallo's performance: "He played well, did great things, and there's still much more to come from him. Today, he showed once again that he's always alert. That's why he earned the penalty and then scored. He's been brilliant."
When asked about his advice to Diallo, Fernandes said: "When he plays like this, he's unstoppable. I just want him to keep going; that's what he's done so far. What he did today was excellent, and I'm sure he can do it every week. We want the same again this week. He's now earning his chances deservedly."
Reflecting on his penalty, Fernandes admitted: "When we were still 1-0 down, I missed a big chance. I just tried to chip the ball over Ederson. The penalty was a very stressful moment. Penalties are a significant part of games. I'm ready to stay calm in big moments."
Regarding adapting to manager Ruben Amorim's system, Fernandes commented: "It's a process; we know what he wants and what we need to do. No matter what happens, we stick to what we're doing."
