Postecoglou: We Won Without 10 Key Players

Ange Postecoglou, the head coach of Tottenham Hotspur, lauded his team's exceptional performance following their commanding 5-0 victory against Southampton in the Premier League. Despite being without ten key players, Spurs delivered a dominant display at St Mary's Stadium.

Postecoglou remarked, "This performance from the players was outstanding. We had a tough European away game on Thursday night. Tonight, we were missing ten first-team players, yet the guys played with such energy. We needed to get to the desired result quickly because we knew we'd get tired. The quality and energy the team showed were incredible."

The match saw goals from James Maddison, who scored twice, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, and Pape Matar Sarr, propelling Tottenham from 13th to 10th place in the league standings.

Regarding Maddison's early goal, Postecoglou noted, "In recent games, we've had good chances early on, and if we'd taken them, we would have put the opponent under pressure. Before the game, I told the team to be ready for a quick start. Maddison's goal was excellent."

On Djed Spence's performance, he commented, "He needed some time, and whenever he played, he integrated very well into the lineup. We couldn't give him much game time because the full-back position is one where we have limited coverage, but we needed him to come in, play at a good level, and he did that. This performance added to his credibility."

Addressing Destiny Udogie's injury, Postecoglou said, "He felt something but wanted to continue. Right now, we can't take risks. I don't think it's a serious injury."

Emphasizing the importance of the win, he added, "This victory helps us. I just want the players to feel good and be rewarded for their efforts. They got their reward tonight; we'll recover and prepare for the big game on Thursday."
