Fonseca Praises Milan's Performance Despite Goalless Draw Against Genoa
AC Milan's head coach, Paulo Fonseca, commended his team's performance in the goalless draw against Genoa, highlighting their aggressive play and numerous scoring opportunities, despite the absence of goals.
AC Milan's head coach, Paulo Fonseca, expressed satisfaction with his team's performance following a goalless draw against Genoa at San Siro, coinciding with the club's 125th anniversary celebrations. Fonseca stated, "We played a good game, created many chances; the players were eager to win and played as a team, but the only thing missing was the goal."
He emphasized the team's offensive approach and their ability to regain possession quickly, noting, "We spent a lot of time in the opponent's penalty area but lacked quality in the final pass. Overall, we had a good attitude, were aggressive, recovered the ball early, and had 22 shots on goal, but none resulted in a goal."
Regarding the team's improvement, Fonseca added, "Today, I saw the right level of determination and effort; we wanted to win, pressed well after losing the ball, and reached their penalty area multiple times. It's not a matter of confidence but of making the right final pass; we lacked quality there, which was the only thing missing tonight."
Alvaro Morata, who was doubtful for the match, replaced Tammy Abraham in the second half and had the best opportunity, hitting the crossbar. Fonseca commented on the attacking lineup, "I believe we have good strikers. Abraham had a bruise and couldn't play the second half; Alvaro didn't train all week. Sometimes people talk about the forwards, but we also lacked quality in crosses and final passes. I have complete confidence in our forwards."
The match concluded with fans expressing their frustration, directing chants against the players and club officials. Fonseca acknowledged the supporters' sentiments, saying, "It's natural for this to happen. We wanted to win for our fans; it's normal for them to be disappointed after this result, but we felt their support throughout. We can all recognize that the team gave everything to win, so I'm dissatisfied with the result, not the performance."
