Roy Keane Advises Marcus Rashford to Leave Manchester United
Following Marcus Rashford's omission from the Manchester derby lineup, former United captain Roy Keane suggests that a transfer might be beneficial for the forward's career.
Marcus Rashford, aged 27, has faced a challenging 18 months at Manchester United. Recent reports indicate that the club is considering selling him to fund transfers under new manager Rúben Amorim. Amorim recently caused a stir by excluding Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho from the squad for the crucial derby against Manchester City, citing performance levels as the reason. He stated to Sky Sports, 'We evaluate everything: training performance, match performance, teamwork, elevating teammates' levels. Everything is considered. This is my choice. It's simple.' He further added, 'I pay attention to everything: how they eat, how they dress for games. Everything. I make my assessments and then decide.'
This decision proved significant as United secured a 2-1 victory over City without Rashford, demonstrating Amorim's capability to achieve positive results in his absence. Roy Keane, analyzing the match for Sky Sports alongside Micah Richards, reacted by suggesting that a move might be in Rashford's best interest. Keane remarked, 'A transfer would suit Marcus, a new challenge for him. He's been here a long time. When you're at a big club and your mindset isn't right, and it hasn't been recently, sometimes it's good to part ways. I'd advise him to leave United.' Keane also noted that he wasn't surprised by Rashford's exclusion, stating, 'It's a big decision. Amorim has clearly seen something he doesn't like. But for those who've watched Manchester United recently, it's not a huge shock because both players have been underperforming. Amorim has said, 'Enough is enough.' It's a big call, but I'm pleased to see it. He's set a standard.'
