Austrian club Salzburg has officially parted ways with head coach Pepijn Lijnders, who previously served as Jürgen Klopp's assistant at Liverpool.
Austrian club Salzburg has officially parted ways with head coach Pepijn Lijnders, who previously served as Jürgen Klopp's assistant at Liverpool. The decision follows a series of disappointing results, including a 3-0 defeat to Klagenfurt in the Austrian Bundesliga.
Lijnders, who joined Salzburg in the summer after leaving Liverpool alongside Klopp, struggled to achieve positive outcomes both domestically and in the UEFA Champions League. Salzburg currently sits fifth in the Austrian league, trailing the leaders by ten points, and is positioned thirty-second in the Champions League standings, facing imminent elimination.
Salzburg's chairman and sporting director, Rouven Schröder, cited the team's underwhelming performances as the primary reason for Lijnders' dismissal. They emphasized the need for a fresh impetus, expressing hope that a new coaching staff would provide the necessary motivation to realign with the club's objectives.
The club aims to appoint a new head coach by January 3rd to lead the team forward in the upcoming fixtures.
