Neymar: The Same Fate That Befell Me Happened to Messi
Neymar shared insights into his time at Paris Saint-Germain and revealed that Lionel Messi faced similar treatment from fans during his tenure in Paris.
In a candid interview with RMC Radio, Neymar reflected on his time at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and discussed the challenges faced by Lionel Messi during his tenure at the club. The Brazilian star revealed how dissatisfaction with his situation led to his move to Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
Neymar stated, "I decided to leave PSG because I wasn’t happy there. The club and the coach had told me that they no longer needed me, so I had to make a decision. Soon after, I received an offer from Al Hilal, and I immediately liked it. I became familiar with the club, the local culture, and the league. The warm and kind reception from the fans surprised me, and I’m confident that my family and I made the right choice."
Reflecting on his early days in Paris, Neymar said, "The first year was amazing. The French people and the fans welcomed me very well. But in the last two or three years, things changed. The same thing happened to Messi. Initially, they treated Leo with immense respect, but later, they started booing him."
Neymar described his disappointment with the fans' behavior: "I always gave my best on the field, so I felt their treatment was unfair. I don’t hold grudges, but I was hurt, especially when they went so far as to come to my house and try to attack me. That crossed the line. I had always shown respect to them, but the relationship became complicated."
Highlighting Messi's similar struggles, Neymar added, "Leo faced the same issues. He was celebrated initially, but later, the reaction of the fans changed. It’s difficult to deal with such situations when you’re giving your all for the team."
Now playing for Al Hilal, Neymar expressed satisfaction with his decision and praised the growth of the Saudi league. He emphasized that both he and his family are enjoying their new life, away from the turbulence of Paris.
