Doctors Warn Lamine Yamal: Skip the Super Cup to Avoid Injury

Lamine Yamal, Barcelona's talented winger, has been advised by Spanish doctors to take a break of at least four weeks following a recurring ankle injury. This recommendation casts serious doubt over his participation in the upcoming Spanish Super Cup.

Barcelona confirmed in an official statement that Yamal has suffered a right ankle sprain. However, according to Dr. Ripoll on the ‘El Larguero’ radio program, the injury could be more severe than initially thought. The doctor explained, “This involves a slight tear in the membrane that connects the shin bones, known as syndesmosis. It’s a sensitive area and requires careful recovery.”

Yamal has faced similar injuries twice in one month, raising concerns about his physical condition. Dr. Ripoll warned, “If Yamal rushes back to the pitch, the injury might worsen, potentially leading to distasis—a separation of the shin bones that causes severe ankle instability.”

To aid his recovery, Dr. Ripoll suggested the use of biological treatments, including plasma therapy, which is common in Spain and accelerates healing. He stressed, “Yamal must rest to prevent long-term damage, even if it means missing crucial matches.”

On the sports program El Chiringuito, another specialist, Dr. Grass, recommended a total of eight weeks of rest, including three weeks without placing any stress on the injured area. The advice reflects the importance of prioritizing Yamal’s long-term fitness over immediate returns.

Barcelona’s medical staff now face a critical decision on whether to hold Yamal out of the Super Cup to ensure a complete recovery.
