Kroos: Inter Milan Was My Choice After Real Madrid
Toni Kroos revealed that if he hadn't retired, he would have joined Inter Milan and explained Carlo Ancelotti's role in bringing him to Real Madrid.
Toni Kroos has admitted that if he had not retired, his preferred club would have been Inter Milan. The German midfielder, who retired last summer after ten remarkable years at Real Madrid, shared his thoughts during an interview with Italian newspaper Tuttosport.
Kroos highlighted the pivotal role played by Carlo Ancelotti in his move to Real Madrid in 2014. Reflecting on that period, he said, “Ancelotti brought me to Real Madrid after the World Cup. He wanted me badly, and they had just won the Champions League. He told me he wanted to take the team to the next level, which gave me the motivation to join.”
He continued, “Leaving Bayern Munich was not an easy decision, but Ancelotti made things simpler. We’ve always had a special relationship, and I like the idea that my time at Real Madrid started and ended with him.”
Kroos, the 2014 World Cup winner with Germany, also revealed that Italian clubs had shown interest during his time at Real Madrid. He said, “When I was playing in Spain, there was interest from Serie A clubs, but I never thought of leaving Real Madrid.”
However, the midfielder added, “If I had chosen to continue my career after Real Madrid, my pick would have been Inter Milan.” Despite never playing in Serie A, Kroos’ admiration for the Italian league remains evident.
