FA Rejects Tottenham’s Appeal: Bentancur Remains Suspended
The English FA has rejected Tottenham’s appeal to reduce Rodrigo Bentancur’s suspension, keeping the midfielder sidelined for two more matches.
Rodrigo Bentancur, the Uruguayan midfielder for Tottenham, will remain suspended after the English Football Association (FA) rejected the club's appeal to reduce his ban. Bentancur is currently serving a seven-match suspension due to a racial comment made during a television appearance in Uruguay.
Bentancur faced disciplinary action after stating in a summer interview that “all Koreans look alike,” a remark deemed racially inappropriate. As a result, the FA handed him a seven-match ban and fined him £100,000.
Tottenham appealed the decision in hopes of reducing the suspension to six matches, but the FA denied the request. Bentancur has already missed five games, including fixtures against Manchester City, Fulham, Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Southampton in the Premier League.
With the rejection, Bentancur will miss Tottenham's crucial upcoming matches against Manchester United in the League Cup and Liverpool in the Premier League. His absence will further challenge Tottenham’s ambitions for silverware.
Although Bentancur remains ineligible for domestic competitions, he has been allowed to feature in the Europa League, where he has already played five matches, scoring one goal and providing one assist this season.
