La Liga president Javier Tebas criticizes A22’s revamped Super League plan, arguing it benefits only major clubs while jeopardizing national leagues.

Tebas Opposes Unified League Amid Super League's New Proposal

Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, has once again voiced his strong opposition to the proposed Super League, now renamed as the Unified League. The revamped project, backed by A22 Sports, seeks to introduce a new format for European competitions.

Tebas took to social media to dismiss the initiative, claiming it endangers the financial stability of European leagues. “Those behind A22 have returned with a new idea, producing formats like fast food without proper economic or sporting analysis. Their proposed TV model benefits only big clubs while destabilizing national leagues and their teams,” Tebas stated.

The new proposal, presented by A22 CEO Bernd Reichart, advocates free streaming of matches funded by advertisements or affordable premium packages. A22 has requested that both UEFA and FIFA recognize the competition following a ruling from the European Court of Justice last year.

Reichart emphasized that the new structure aims to make European football more accessible to fans worldwide. However, Tebas remains unconvinced, reiterating his belief that the initiative solely serves the interests of football’s elite clubs, particularly under the leadership of figures like Florentino Perez.

The rebranding of the Super League into the Unified League has reignited debates across Europe, with clubs, fans, and governing bodies still divided on its potential impact on football’s traditional structure.
