Garnacho Reacts After Being Dropped for Manchester Derby
Alejandro Garnacho, fresh off winning the FIFA Puskás Award, reacts to his surprising exclusion from Manchester United’s squad for the derby victory over Manchester City.
Alejandro Garnacho, the Argentine forward for Manchester United, shared his thoughts after being left out of the squad by Ruben Amorim for the Manchester derby. Despite his absence, United secured a dramatic 2-1 win against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Garnacho’s omission, alongside teammate Marcus Rashford, sparked controversy among fans. However, the 19-year-old Argentine quickly shifted focus to his recent achievement: winning the prestigious 2024 FIFA Puskás Award for his stunning overhead goal against Everton. This made Garnacho the second Manchester United player to win the award after Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.
In his acceptance speech, Garnacho expressed gratitude and optimism: “I am proud to win this award. It’s a special moment for me and my family. I want to thank all the Manchester United fans and everyone who voted for me. This goal was the result of hard work in training and the support of my teammates. Without them, it wouldn’t have been possible.”
Garnacho added: “It was a memorable goal for me, but I believe there are many more incredible moments ahead with Manchester United. We have exciting challenges to face together, and I’m ready to keep giving my best.”
Despite recent exclusion from the matchday squad, Garnacho’s comments reflect his determination to focus on the future and help United achieve success as they aim for more silverware this season.
