Pereira Fired from Sporting; Amorim's Transfer Proves Unsuccessful
Joaquim Pereira's tenure as Sporting's head coach comes to an end after a series of poor results, following the transfer of Ruben Amorim to Manchester United.
Joaquim Pereira is set to be dismissed from his position as the head coach of Sporting Lisbon after a disappointing spell in charge. Following Ruben Amorim's move to Manchester United, Pereira was chosen as his successor. However, despite an early 6-0 win in the Portuguese Cup, Pereira's reign quickly fell apart. In the following four matches, Sporting suffered four losses to Arsenal, Santa Clara, Mauritense, and Club Brugge, leading to increasing pressure on Pereira.
Although Sporting showed improvement in their next few matches with two wins and a draw, the damage had been done. Managers at Sporting are now concerned that the team's chances of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League and winning the league are at risk. After a 11-week spell at the top of the league, they were overtaken by Benfica, prompting the decision to part ways with Pereira during the winter break and seek a new coach for the remainder of the season.
Meanwhile, Manchester United is also struggling under Ruben Amorim, with recent results showing poor performances, including a 3-0 loss at home to end the first half of the season.
