Wojciech Szczesny has refuted claims that he demanded a guaranteed starting role before joining Barcelona. The Polish goalkeeper, who joined the Catalan club last summer following Marc-Andre ter Stegen's injury, was reportedly convinced by a personal call from Robert Lewandowski.
Initially, speculation suggested Szczesny insisted on being the main goalkeeper. However, head coach Hansi Flick clarified that Inaki Pena remains Barcelona's first-choice goalkeeper. "Szczesny has been professional despite limited playtime," Flick stated, praising his commitment.
Szczesny is expected to make his debut in the Copa del Rey on January 4, offering him a chance to showcase his skills after a challenging period on the bench. Previously a standout at Juventus, the 35-year-old veteran opted to join Barcelona even with retirement on the horizon.
