Lunin's Conditional Extension with Real Madrid
Andriy Lunin extends his contract with Real Madrid under conditional terms, keeping the door open for offers from other clubs.
Andriy Lunin, the backup goalkeeper for Real Madrid, has signed a contract extension under conditional terms. Despite his agreement, Lunin remains open to offers, reflecting the uncertain nature of his future at the club.
According to reports, Lunin's role remains secondary to Thibaut Courtois, who is the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper. Lunin acknowledged during negotiations that his signature does not guarantee long-term commitment to Real Madrid, and the club confirmed its openness to listening to transfer proposals.
The Ukrainian international sees a potential opportunity in the future when Courtois, currently 32, might step aside. However, the possibility of Courtois extending his contract beyond 2026 presents a challenge for Lunin's aspirations of becoming the starting goalkeeper.
Last summer, Lunin was close to joining Chelsea, as Real Madrid entertained the idea of swapping him for Kepa Arrizabalaga. Ultimately, the deal fell through, and Lunin decided to stay at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Lunin’s recent move to work with Jorge Mendes as his agent signals his readiness to explore opportunities that may arise in the coming seasons.
