Wayne Rooney Departs Plymouth Argyle by Mutual Consent

Wayne Rooney, the Manchester United legend, has officially parted ways with Plymouth Argyle by mutual agreement. This decision follows a challenging season where the club won only four of its 23 games, leaving them at the bottom of the Championship with 18 points.

Rooney took over as Plymouth's manager in the summer but struggled to produce positive results. After nine consecutive winless matches, the club's management decided to pursue a new direction for 2025. Mike Phelan and Stephen Ireland, Rooney's coaching assistants, also left the club.

In a statement, Rooney expressed gratitude to Plymouth’s board, especially Simon Hallett and Neil Dewsnip, for their support, as well as the players, staff, and fans for their efforts during his tenure. He added, "To the Green Army, thank you for making the Home Park experience unforgettable."

Plymouth Argyle now faces the challenge of appointing a new manager to lead them out of their current struggles and rebuild for the future.
