Indonesia Fires Coach Shin Tae-yong Amid Team Struggles
The Indonesian Football Federation has officially parted ways with Shin Tae-yong, citing the need for new leadership and tactical improvements.
Shin Tae-yong, the South Korean head coach of Indonesia’s national football team, has been dismissed by the Indonesian Football Federation. The announcement was made by Federation President Erick Thohir during a press conference in Jakarta.
Five Years of Service
Shin, who took charge in 2020, served as head coach for Indonesia’s senior national team and its U-20 and U-23 squads. His tenure saw notable progress, including improved performances in regional tournaments, but the Federation decided it was time for a change to address the team’s future strategic needs.
Official Statement
"We sincerely thank Coach Shin Tae-yong for his contributions over the past five years," said Thohir. "While our collaboration has been positive, the dynamic requirements of our national team now demand a new approach. We felt the need for leadership capable of implementing better strategies and fostering clearer tactical communication."
Reasons for the Decision
The Federation cited the need to revitalize the team’s tactics and overall management. While Shin had a contract until 2027, the decision to terminate his role reflects a broader effort to elevate Indonesia’s standing in international football.
Looking Ahead
Indonesia now begins the search for a new head coach to guide its national team toward achieving long-term goals. The Federation emphasized its commitment to finding a leader who can build on the foundations laid by Shin Tae-yong and take the team to the next level.
