Wayne Rooney Returns to Football as TV Expert After Plymouth Departure
Wayne Rooney, former England star and ex-Plymouth manager, is set to return to football as a TV expert after his short stint at Plymouth ended in disappointment.
Wayne Rooney, former star of Manchester United and England, is making a return to the football world after his brief managerial role at Plymouth Argyle ended in early 2025. Despite his failure to secure a successful run with Plymouth, where he only managed 25 matches, Rooney is already receiving numerous offers to work as a football analyst for TV networks.
Rooney’s tenure at Plymouth ended after the club was placed near the bottom of the Championship standings, just four points away from safety. As a result, both parties agreed to part ways just before the new year. However, Rooney’s popularity among television executives is high, with many viewing him as a credible and insightful expert.
Sky Sports is reportedly one of the most serious suitors, offering a long-term contract to the former forward. Rooney has previously worked with ITV and BBC Sports and now looks set to begin a new chapter in his career.
