Deco Responds to Criticism from Bilbao President

Deco, the sporting director of FC Barcelona, has issued a firm response to recent criticism from Jon Uriarte, the president of Athletic Bilbao. The exchange stems from the Higher Sports Council's (CSD) decision to grant Barcelona a provisional measure allowing the registration of players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, despite opposition from LaLiga and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

Uriarte had previously labeled the CSD's ruling as "grotesque" and "a disgrace," claiming it undermined the efforts of clubs that follow strict financial and regulatory guidelines. Speaking ahead of Athletic Bilbao's match against Barcelona, Uriarte said, "This decision is a disgrace. We work tirelessly to meet all the requirements, yet these kinds of measures make our efforts meaningless."

In response, Deco defended Barcelona's stance and dismissed Uriarte's comments as unnecessary interference. Speaking to reporters, Deco stated, "Every club has its own challenges and responsibilities. We respect the processes and decisions of the relevant authorities. I suggest that others focus on their own issues rather than critiquing matters that don't concern them directly."

The controversy centers around Barcelona's efforts to register Olmo and Victor for the second half of the season. Initially blocked by LaLiga due to financial constraints, Barcelona appealed to the CSD, which granted a temporary suspension of the registration denial. This decision has sparked debates among clubs about fairness and governance in Spanish football.

Deco emphasized that Barcelona has acted within the legal framework and is committed to complying with regulations. "We are focused on our objectives and ensuring we uphold the integrity of the process," he added. His remarks highlight the club's confidence in navigating the complex regulatory landscape.

The tension between clubs over regulatory decisions is not new, but this episode underscores the broader challenges of maintaining a level playing field in Spanish football. As the season progresses, the outcomes of these disputes will likely influence future governance and decision-making processes.
