AC Milan has officially announced the appointment of Sérgio Conceição as the club's new head coach, following the dismissal of Paulo Fonseca. Zlatan Ibrahimović, in his capacity as a senior advisor to Milan’s ownership, spoke candidly about the managerial change and the reasons behind the decision.

At Conceição’s unveiling, Ibrahimović began by acknowledging Fonseca’s efforts: "I want to thank Paulo Fonseca for his professionalism and the dedication he showed during his time with us. However, at AC Milan, results are paramount, and unfortunately, we were unable to achieve the consistency required." He went on to apologize for the way Fonseca’s departure was handled, saying, "It was a mistake to send him to the post-match conference after the decision had already been made. For this, I apologize to both Paulo and the fans."

Introducing Sérgio Conceição, Ibrahimović emphasized the qualities that make him the ideal choice for Milan at this critical juncture. "Sérgio is a winner and a man of character. He has proven himself at the highest levels with FC Porto, where he won multiple league titles and delivered strong performances in European competitions. His ability to adapt mid-season and produce results is exactly what Milan needs right now," he stated.

Conceição himself expressed his readiness to take on the challenge. "Milan is a club with a proud history and passionate fans. I am here to restore the standards of excellence expected at this club. We will not look for excuses; we will work hard to achieve our goals," he remarked during his first press conference.

Milan currently sits eighth in Serie A, trailing the league leaders by 14 points. With the team underperforming relative to expectations, the club’s leadership believes Conceição’s experience and tactical acumen can reverse their fortunes. His no-nonsense approach and ability to inspire players will be critical in the weeks ahead.

In addition to addressing the coaching change, Ibrahimović called for unity among players and fans. "This is a time for us to come together. Sérgio has our full support, and I am confident that he will lead us to better results," he concluded.

Milan fans will be eager to see how Conceição reshapes the team, with his first matches expected to serve as an early indicator of what the Portuguese coach can bring to the storied club.
