Vinicius Jr’s Suspension Upheld by Spanish FA
The Spanish FA has confirmed Vinicius Jr’s two-match ban, dismissing Real Madrid’s appeal following his red card against Valencia.
Vinicius Jr will officially miss Real Madrid’s next two La Liga matches after the Spanish Football Association (RFEF) rejected the club’s appeal to overturn his suspension. The ruling stems from the red card shown to the Brazilian forward during their recent clash with Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium.
The controversial incident occurred in the 79th minute of the match, when Vinicius Jr was involved in a heated altercation with Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. Video footage showed Vinicius striking the goalkeeper, leading to his dismissal for unsportsmanlike conduct. The referee’s report cited his actions as a violation of the rules, warranting a two-match suspension.
Real Madrid had hoped to overturn the decision, arguing that the punishment was excessive. However, the disciplinary committee upheld the initial ruling, emphasizing that the evidence clearly supported the referee’s decision. The suspension applies exclusively to La Liga matches, allowing Vinicius to participate in other competitions, including the Super Cup.
The ban means Vinicius will be unavailable for Real Madrid’s upcoming fixtures against Las Palmas and Real Valladolid. The timing of the suspension is particularly challenging for Real Madrid, as they are in the midst of a tight title race and cannot afford to drop points.
Criticism has also emerged from some rival clubs, who believe the punishment was lenient given the nature of the offense. Despite the controversy, Real Madrid is determined to adjust their tactics and overcome the absence of one of their key players in these crucial games.
