Oman Defeats Qatar 2-1: Asian Champions' Struggles Continue

In the second round of the Gulf Cup group stage, Oman secured a 2-1 win over Qatar, the current Asian champions, who have been experiencing a series of disappointing results. Qatar took an early lead in the 2nd minute when Almoez Ali received a precise through ball from Ibrahim Al-Hassan, outmaneuvered Omani defender Mohammed Al-Musallami, and scored with a deft chip. Oman equalized in the 18th minute after earning a penalty due to Lucas Mendes's foul on Issam Al-Sabhi. Al-Sabhi converted the penalty, sending goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham the wrong way. In the second half, Oman took the lead when Ali Al-Busaidi's cross from the left found Abdulrahman Al-Mushaifri, who flicked the ball to Al-Sabhi. Al-Sabhi scored his second goal, securing the victory for Oman. Qatar's attempts to equalize were unsuccessful, resulting in their fourth loss in eight matches, with only two wins during this period. This defeat raises concerns about Qatar's form as they prepare to defend their title in upcoming competitions.
