Supercopa Controversy in Saudi Arabia: Return Unlikely
The new president of the Spanish Football Federation deems the immediate return of the Supercopa to Spain improbable due to existing financial and contractual commitments with Saudi Arabia.
Rafael Louzán, the newly appointed president of the Spanish Football Federation, has addressed two significant issues that have sparked debate in recent years: the relocation of the Spanish Supercopa to Saudi Arabia and the hosting of the Copa del Rey final at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville.
According to reports from Cadena SER, due to financial considerations and a contract extending until 2029, no changes are anticipated regarding the Supercopa's current arrangement. The Federation believes that unless a sponsor matches the financial contributions provided by Saudi Arabia, hosting the Supercopa in Spain remains unfeasible. Consequently, the tournament is expected to continue being held abroad for the foreseeable future.
In contrast, the venue for the Copa del Rey final may see changes once the existing contract concludes. The Federation's executive committee plans to discuss relocating the final to a larger stadium in the medium term.
