Saudi Arabia Triumphs 3-1 Over Iraq in Gulf Cup
Saudi Arabia's national team secured a 3-1 victory against Iraq in the Gulf Cup, advancing to the next round as the second team from their group.
In a pivotal Gulf Cup group stage match, Saudi Arabia defeated Iraq 3-1, ensuring their progression to the tournament's next round.
The scoring opened in the 57th minute when a handball by Ibrahim Bayesh led to a penalty, which Salem Al-Dawsari converted, sending goalkeeper Jalal Hassan the wrong way.
Iraq responded swiftly. A long pass from Amjad Attwan found Ayman Hussein, who headed it to Mohannad Ali. Ali's precise shot beat goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais, leveling the score.
As both teams sought a decisive goal, Saudi Arabia regained the lead in the 81st minute. Sultan Al-Ghannam delivered a low cross into the box, which Abdullah Al-Hamdan met with a powerful strike into the corner of the net.
In the closing moments, Al-Hamdan secured his brace. A swift counter-attack orchestrated by Al-Dawsari's incisive pass allowed Al-Hamdan to slot the ball past the Iraqi goalkeeper, sealing a 3-1 victory for Saudi Arabia.
This win, following an initial tournament loss, propelled Saudi Arabia to six points, finishing second in their group behind Bahrain. They advance to face Oman in the upcoming round, while Iraq exits the competition.
