Herve Renard Still Riding High on Saudi Arabia's Win Over Argentina
Ali Al-Habsi, former goalkeeper for Al Hilal, claims that Herve Renard’s only major achievement with Saudi Arabia was the victory over Argentina, and since then, the team has struggled.
Ali Al-Habsi, former goalkeeper of Al Hilal and Oman, has criticized Herve Renard, the current coach of Saudi Arabia, saying that Renard has not achieved much since the historic win over Argentina in 2022. According to Al-Habsi, Saudi Arabia's performance has dropped significantly since then.
In an interview with the media outlet Korra, Al-Habsi said, “Unfortunately, Renard is still living off the victory against Argentina, and since then, he has failed to meet expectations. Despite the historical achievement, Saudi Arabia has suffered consecutive losses, and the decline of the team is evident.”
Al-Habsi further stated that given Saudi Arabia's powerful domestic league and financial support, the team should have performed much better in recent tournaments, including the AFC Asian Cup, World Cup qualifiers, and the Gulf Cup, where their performance was disastrous.
