Elon Musk Expresses Interest in Purchasing Liverpool FC
Errol Musk, father of billionaire Elon Musk, has revealed his son's interest in acquiring Liverpool Football Club, citing family ties to the city.
Errol Musk, father of the world's richest man, has claimed that his son, Elon Musk, is interested in purchasing Liverpool Football Club. The current owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), have been open to external investment but have not considered a full sale of the club.
When asked about his son's potential acquisition of Liverpool, Errol Musk told Radio Times: 'I can't comment on that. They will raise the price.' He added, 'Oh, yes. But that doesn't mean he will buy it. He certainly would like to, everybody would like to, I would like to as well.'
In May of the previous year, Liverpool was valued at approximately €4.4 billion, making it the fourth most valuable football club globally. This valuation represents just over 1% of Elon Musk's estimated net worth of around €400 billion.
Errol Musk also mentioned a familial connection to Liverpool: 'His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives there. So, we have an attachment to Liverpool.'
FSG has faced criticism from some fans for a perceived lack of investment in the team. In February 2023, principal owner John W. Henry addressed sale rumors, stating: 'Are we going to be in England forever? No. Are we selling Liverpool? Have we sold anything in the past 20 years?'
Currently, the club is in contract stalemates with key players Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all of whom have contracts expiring in the summer.
