Luis Enrique: I Make Decisions, Not Explanations
Paris Saint-Germain's head coach Luis Enrique comments on Marco Asensio's situation, stressing that actions speak louder than words.
Luis Enrique, the head coach of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), has made it clear that his decisions regarding players, including Marco Asensio, speak louder than any verbal explanations. In a press conference ahead of PSG’s upcoming match, Enrique addressed questions about Asensio's form and role within the team.
The 28-year-old Spanish winger was initially considered a vital part of Enrique’s tactical plans due to his ability to play in various midfield roles. However, Asensio suffered a significant foot injury early in the 2023 season, which disrupted his momentum. Since returning, he has struggled to regain his top form and has often been utilized in a false nine position, filling in for Gonçalo Ramos.
This season, Asensio has made 15 appearances across all competitions, contributing just two goals and four assists—a stark contrast to the expectations set when he joined PSG from Real Madrid. Despite his limited impact, Enrique remains focused on evaluating players based on performance and effort during matches and training sessions.
Speaking to the press, Enrique stated, “I prefer to let my decisions do the talking. Every choice I make reflects my perspective on the players at any given time. While players might not always agree, that’s part of football. My decisions aren’t irreversible, and they’re based on what I see on the pitch and in training.”
With Asensio under contract at PSG until 2026, there has been speculation about his future. Clubs such as Juventus, Real Sociedad, and Aston Villa have reportedly shown interest in signing the Spanish international, should the financial terms align. While Enrique has not explicitly commented on Asensio’s transfer prospects, his approach suggests that the door remains open for the player to either secure his place in the team or explore opportunities elsewhere.
PSG continues to navigate the complexities of managing a star-studded squad, balancing individual performances with team goals as they strive for success in Ligue 1 and European competitions.
