Maradona’s Hair and Ronaldo’s Jersey Unsold at Auction
Diego Maradona's hair and Ronaldo Nazario’s 1998 World Cup final jersey failed to attract buyers at an auction in Paris.
Diego Maradona's hair and Ronaldo Nazario's jersey from the 1998 World Cup final were offered at an auction in Paris but surprisingly failed to find buyers. According to sources from the Aguttes auction house, these iconic memorabilia were left unsold despite their historical significance.
The estimated value for Maradona’s hair ranged from €35,000 to €50,000, while Ronaldo’s jersey was expected to fetch between €40,000 and €80,000. Francois Thierry, a specialist in sports collectibles, expressed disappointment but did not rule out the possibility of future sales.
Should Maradona's hair remain unsold, it will be returned to its owner, Stefano Ceci, a close friend of the Argentine legend who acquired it in Dubai in 2018. The auction saw 82% of its 212 items sold, generating €400,000 in total revenue, with buyers from 17 countries participating.
The top-selling item was Evander Holyfield's 1996 world championship boxing belt, auctioned for €78,000. Other notable sales included Bobby Moore's England jersey from the 1970 World Cup final for €30,000 and Roger Federer's racket from the 2005 Wimbledon final, sold for €23,000.
