Julian Nagelsmann Faces Setback as Key Defender Benjamin Henrichs Suffers Season-Ending Injury
RB Leipzig's Benjamin Henrichs has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a severe Achilles tendon injury, posing a significant challenge for Germany's head coach Julian Nagelsmann.
In a crushing blow to both RB Leipzig and the German national team, Benjamin Henrichs has sustained a ruptured Achilles tendon in his right foot during Leipzig's 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich. This injury will sideline him for the rest of the season. Henrichs is scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday.
Marcel Schäfer, RB Leipzig's sporting director, expressed the club's support: 'This is naturally a shock for Benny and a significant setback for us. He will receive all the support he needs during this challenging time.'
Henrichs, who was part of Julian Nagelsmann's squad for Euro 2024 last summer, suffered the injury in the final moments of the match against Bayern. He collapsed to the ground without any contact while attempting to reach the ball, letting out a loud cry. Medical staff promptly attended to him, and he was carried off the field in tears.
In response to his injury, Henrichs shared on Instagram: 'I wouldn't wish this pain on anyone. Why it happened to me and why I'm now facing the first major injury of my career, I don't know. But I do know that I can put my trust in God.'
