Paul Pogba: My Brother’s Conviction Is Not a Victory
Paul Pogba reacts to the conviction of his brother Mathias in a high-profile extortion case, emphasizing that there are no winners in such family tragedies.
Paul Pogba, the French football star, shared his reaction to the conviction of his brother Mathias Pogba, who was sentenced to three years in prison for extortion and attempted kidnapping.
In a statement released through his lawyer, Pogba said, "There are no winners in this case, as it involves members of my family and people I have known since childhood. Finally, I can turn this painful page in my life."
The verdict, announced by a Paris court, found Mathias guilty of attempting to extort €13 million from Paul in 2022. While Mathias received a suspended sentence for two years and one year under house arrest with an electronic tag, other co-defendants were sentenced to up to eight years in prison.
Pogba also expressed his relief, stating that the conclusion of the case allows him to focus fully on his return to professional football after his suspension ends in March. "This judgment is an opportunity for everyone involved to move forward and focus on the future," he added.
