Robinho's Christmas Behind Bars: Former Real Madrid Star Denied Holiday Release

Robinho, the former forward for Real Madrid and AC Milan, is set to spend his first Christmas behind bars after authorities denied his request for temporary release during the holiday season. Like thousands of other inmates, Robinho does not qualify for furlough to celebrate the New Year.

Currently incarcerated at the Tremembé Penitentiary near São Paulo, Robinho will remain with over 2,500 inmates during the 11-day holiday period, unable to join his wife, Vivian, and their three children at their home in Santos. Since March, he has been serving a nine-year sentence for sexual assault.

The Brazilian prison service confirmed in a statement: "Inmate Robson de Souza is serving his sentence and does not have the right to temporary release. The Tremembé Penitentiary II, where Robson is held, will not hold any special programs for the end-of-year celebrations."

Robinho, aged 40, has been incarcerated since March 21. His friend, Ricardo Falco, was also imprisoned after a Brazilian court ruled in June that he must serve his sentence. Both were convicted of assaulting an Albanian woman during a nightclub party in Milan in January 2013, when Robinho was playing for AC Milan.
