Sahin: Losing to Real in Final Was 2024's Worst Memory

Borussia Dortmund's manager, Nuri Sahin, reflects on the Champions League final loss to Real Madrid, calling it the most painful moment of 2024.

Sahin: Losing to Real in Final Was 2024's Worst Memory

Nuri Sahin, the head coach of Borussia Dortmund, has labeled the defeat against Real Madrid in the Champions League final as his most distressing experience of 2024. In an interview with the club's official media, Sahin expressed his dissatisfaction with Dortmund's current standing in the Bundesliga and emphasized the need for improvement in the upcoming year.

Reflecting on the final, Sahin remarked, 'The result was the only negative aspect of that journey, as we left Wembley empty-handed. I had previously experienced a similar disappointment as a player in 2013 when we lost to Bayern Munich at Wembley. This marks the second occasion I've departed that stadium without a trophy.'

Sahin also highlighted the challenges faced throughout the season, including injuries and inconsistent performances, but remains optimistic about reversing the team's fortunes in 2025. He stated, 'Our current position does not reflect Borussia Dortmund's true potential; we deserve to be higher up the table. I expect my players to demonstrate greater consistency as the season progresses, and we must swiftly address our inability to secure victories in home matches.'

Looking ahead, Sahin is determined to lead Dortmund to a more successful year, aiming to rectify past shortcomings and achieve the stability required to compete at the highest level.
