Ruben Semedo, the Portuguese central defender known for his stints with Villarreal and Huesca, has been arrested in Portugal on charges of domestic violence. According to reports, Semedo allegedly assaulted his partner on the night of December 28, detaining her in his residence before she managed to escape and report the incident to the police.

The Lisbon Public Security Police issued a statement confirming the arrest of a 30-year-old man for domestic violence. They detailed that the victim, also 30, exhibited visible bruises and was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment. Semedo was apprehended in the early hours of December 29 and is expected to appear in court on December 30.

This incident adds to a series of legal troubles for Semedo. In 2018, he was arrested in Spain on charges including attempted murder, leading to nearly six months of imprisonment. More recently, in 2021 and 2022, during his tenure in Greece, he faced allegations of rape and domestic violence. Currently playing for Al Khor in Qatar, Semedo may face restrictions such as the confiscation of his passport, potentially preventing his return to Doha.
